About Us

Our Mission

Mando’s Mission exists to share the love of God with the people of Honduras, working alongside them to achieve their daily needs, inspiring and enabling them to partner with us in sharing the love of God throughout Honduras.

About Mando

Armando Perez was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He is called “Mando” by his friends. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Lejamani, Comayagua, Honduras. Mando immigrated to the United States as a young man in the early 1980s. He lived in Connecticut, where he started a family. Even though he lived in America for a long time, his love for his home country and its people never changed.

Mando felt like he had to help the people of Honduras in some way. So, with a clear goal in mind, he filled his car with clothes and toys to give away and drove more than 3500 miles from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Lejamani. He went through the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras on his trip. It was a one-way trip that took a lot of courage and love for his homeland country. He made this trip five years in a row.

In 1989, Mando embarked on a journey that would alter the course of his life. He went back to Lejamani with the plan of giving out gifts and telling people about the Gospel. Many people were saved by Mando’s words at an event where he preached in the city park. He had a strong desire to preach because he knew the Gospel was the most important thing he could give.

Even though the small gifts he gave made people happy for a short time, the effect of the Gospel would last forever. Despite his gratitude for the commitments he witnessed, he was deeply impacted by the physical needs he witnessed in the community. When Mando got back home, he worked hard to save money for more gifts. He kept doing this for five years. Mando and his wife Maria moved to Puerto Rico for a while in the end.

Mando and Maria eventually moved to North Carolina after moving back to the United States. Around 2008, Mando went to Honduras again and spent up to 75% of his money on those trips. At first, he would fly with as much luggage as he could, but it was expensive to fly and ship. But after a few years, Mando found a way to ship supplies that was cheaper and allowed him to send larger amounts. This was a big relief because it meant he didn’t have to drive or pay huge shipping fees anymore.

A Message from Steve

Woe, what a journey! I am thrilled to share with you about my dear friend, Mando, and the amazing work that is being done through “Mando’s Mission”! I am honored to have been a friend of Mando’s for approximately 20 years, and have been in awe of his big heart and love for people. He has been traveling to Honduras for years to minister to the people there, and I admire his passion and dedication to spreading the love of Christ. I shared with him how our church had been traveling to Guatemala, on medical mission trips.

In 2012, we had a trip planned to Peru, and invited Mando to come along with us. It was on that trip that we all saw firsthand his incredible gifts in evangelism and his unwavering work ethic.  He was loved and welcomed as a part of our Mt. Zion Wesleyan church family.  Since that trip he has been an integral part of our church and has always been willing to serve in any capacity.

In 2018, Dr. Ed Reedy and I traveled to Honduras with Mando to explore the needs of the people there and see how we could support his efforts.

It was incredible to see the love and respect that the people had for Mando and his love for them. We realized it was an excellent opportunity for our church to assist one of our own in serving others abroad and decided to include Honduras in our global mission outreach program.

Fast forward to February 2019. We took our first team to Honduras and wore matching T-shirts with “Mando’s Mission” written on them. The name stuck and has now become the official name of our ministry.  And in 2022, we established “Mando’s Mission” as a 501c3 to further support Mando in his work in Honduras.

I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing mission and to work alongside my dear friend, Mando. I can’t wait to see the incredible things that God has in store for us!
